The firm has some 65+ employees at present with varying levels of expertise and with certain specialist qualifications. Our permanent specialist and support staff include: qualified, experienced managers who actively guide and train our trainee accountants. Many of our trainee accountants are graduates. We have a policy of giving our trainee accountants exposure to a wide spectrum of topics other than auditing, such as business valuations, tax planning and consulting, consolidations and budgeting. We are a SAICA accredited training office and all our employees receive training both in-house and externally on a regular basis.
Managing Director | CA(SA) | RA Bob Borrill leads Nwanda Inc. and is responsible for steering the firm’s strategic direction. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1984, he specialised in tax and financial management, working in commerce for over a decade before returning to the audit profession and joining Nwanda. He was elected managing partner in 2011 and has since guided the firm’s growth, ensuring clients receive robust tax and financial management advice. Bob’s deep understanding of both local and international markets has seen him represent the Africa & Middle‑East region within the Praxity Alliance. His leadership blends practical expertise with a commitment to ethical standards and long‑term client relationships.
Director | CA(SA) | RA Pieter Steyn combines entrepreneurial insight with a strong technical foundation. A Registered Auditor and Chartered Accountant since 2005, he successfully ran his own audit and accounting practice before joining Nwanda as a partner in February 2017. Pieter applies this hands‑on experience to advise clients on audit, financial management and business strategy. His pragmatic approach and wide exposure to different industries make him a trusted advisor to owner‑managed businesses and larger entities alike.
Director | CA(SA) | RA Christopher Botha brings strong analytical skills and a scientific mindset to his role. He holds a BSc in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from the University of Johannesburg and completed his articles at PKF (Welkom) while studying part‑time through UNISA. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 2012 he joined Nwanda as an audit manager, gained experience as a financial manager in the private sector, then rejoined Nwanda and was admitted as an audit partner in 2018. Christopher combines his mathematical background with extensive audit and industry experience, helping clients implement robust assurance processes and harness technology to meet evolving standards.
Director | CA(SA) | RA Ashen Gunasee’s career reflects determination and a focus on excellence. He completed his undergraduate degree and CTA at UNISA while studying part‑time and qualified as a Chartered Accountant after passing both SAICA board exams on his first attempt. After completing his articles at Orkin Brown and Associate, he worked at BDO Johannesburg before joining Nwanda in April 2017 as a Senior Audit Manager and later becoming a partner. Ashen leads audit teams with an emphasis on efficiency, compliance and client service, managing a diverse portfolio of clients across industries.
Director | CA(SA) | RA Erika Botha balances technical expertise with a passion for developing people. She completed her articles at PKF (Welkom) in 2011 while studying part‑time through UNISA, moved to Johannesburg and joined Nwanda soon after. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2014 and became an audit partner in January 2020. Erika leads audit and assurance engagements and is also Head of the Accounting Department, overseeing service delivery and operational excellence. In addition, she serves as Nwanda’s Training Officer, mentoring junior staff and fostering a culture of learning and professional growth.
Director | CA(SA) | RA Proffessor Mafela offers clients comprehensive solutions across tax, advisory and audit. He completed his articles at Nwanda in 2015, obtained a Post‑graduate Diploma in Taxation focusing on South African and international case law at UNISA, and was admitted as an audit partner in January 2020. His combination of tax and audit expertise allows him to provide practical, integrated advice that enhances compliance and adds value across sectors.
Director | CA(SA) | RA Esmeralda Gembicki has established herself as a dedicated professional in audit, assurance and advisory services. She completed her articles at PKF (Welkom) while studying towards her Bachelor of Accounting Science degree at UNISA and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2018. Esmeralda became a partner in 2024. She is known for her focus on quality and efficiency and for nurturing future talent within the firm.
Tax Director Vanessa brings precision and strategy to the forefront of tax management. She helps clients stay compliant while also optimising their tax positions. Her deep understanding of tax laws allows her to offer practical solutions.
Company Secretarial Director With more than 20 years of experience in corporate governance, Samantha has been leading Nwanda Financial Services’ Secretarial Department since 2014. She’s passionate about guiding clients through company and trust administration with clarity, efficiency, and care. Samantha’s friendly professionalism and deep industry knowledge make her a trusted partner to clients and colleagues alike.
